Kristen, my friend from Ukraine, sent me an amazing article from a March 2008 issue of Woman’s World, which she probably ripped out while waiting at the dentist’s or something. It was a bunch of recipes for April Fool’s Gotcha Goodies! ‘The gang will be all giggles when you give ‘em treats that aren’t what they seem. But don’t worry, they won’t be disappointed—these “gotcha goodies” are de-lish!’
This was called “Something’s Fishy Sushi”. I unrolled some Betty Crocker fruit roll-ups and then spread a warmed Kellogg’s Rice Krispies treat on the fake nori. Then I put some gummi fish in the middle and rolled everything up to create mock makizushi. The wasabi was a lime Tootsie Roll and the gari was just a cherry Tootsie Roll.
Another gotcha goodie I want to try is Faux French Fries. You cut lady fingers in half lengthwise and then toss them with melted butter and bake them at 450 F for 5 minutes. Then you serve them with strawberry preserves instead of ketchup.
