Caring for my sick rabbit, Babar, who is currently suffering from what his vet called the “worst eye infection” she’d ever seen is quite a job. Four to seven times a day, I have to give him an antibiotic drop in each eye and twice a day I have to give him anti-inflammatory drops. Once a day I have to give him an oral antibiotic and that involves having to wrap him in a towel so he can’t move his legs.
The latter is a two-man job. My boyfriend holds him while I use the needleless syringe to squirt medicine into his little mouth. While it’s sad and disturbing for everyone involved, I can’t help but think it’s forced us all to bond a little more. And even with disgusting puss in his eyes, Babar is still pretty darn cute. Kirill, my boyfriend, accidentally hypnotized him and for a while, he just looked like a rolled up towel… then he looked to me like a dead rabbit that had been rolled up in a towel, so I made my boyfriend unwrap the towel so I could make sure for my own peace of mind that he was, in fact, alive. He was. But he’s miserable and so am I… until he gets better… which I hope he does.
